Kiri and Jaxson were married at Shamba Malaika, an enchanting property nestled in the countryside of Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast. They pledged their vows beneath a canopy of green, bounded by the rainforest, towering bamboo groves and a babbling stream. Afterwards, they kicked up their heels with family and friends beneath two Kata Tipis dressed with vibrant foliage, festoon lights and Moroccan style blankets, colourful cushions and vintage furniture. They feasted on wood fired pizzas and tacos and danced like no one was watching. This stunning DIY Tipi Wedding was planned from their home in north west WA, and it’s safe to say, they nailed it!
What made you choose tipis for your wedding? I found the giant tipis a few years ago and just loved them. Once we got engaged, I knew that we would have them at our wedding, they fitted our non-traditional and relaxed vibe perfectly, I wouldn’t of had anything else.
What advice to you have for people who are planning a tipi wedding? Do it!! Best decision ever for our wedding. Doesn’t matter your style, whether it’s formal or casual, you can decorate them to suit your own vibe. They create such a magical feeling at your reception, something you will never forget.
Which styling tips are a must for our tipis? You have to have festoon/fairy lights! The best thing about them is they work with whatever style wedding you have, we had lots of greenery like plants around the tipi and ferns hanging from the inside, along with furnishings like rugs and cushions on the floor.
Describe your overall experience having your reception with the tipis? It was amazing! The most magical feeling, especially when the sun goes down and the tipis are lit up with all the lights. Everyone had the best time ever dancing underneath it. Hannah and Benn from Gold Coast Tipis were awesome when we were planning our wedding, and so helpful throughout the whole process. I couldn’t recommend them more!
